Lachlan's first job out of drama school was the role of Capt. Jack Harkness's brother Gray in the BBC hit television series Torchwood.

Lachlan played Lieutenant Edward Courtenay in the second series of Downton Abbey. He starred as Captain Davenport in the Norwegian feature film Cross of Honour (originally Into the White). He played Dominic in Mike Figgis's suspense thriller Suspension of Disbelief. He featured briefly as the lothario Ted in Fredrik Bond's Charlie Countryman opposite Shia LaBeouf and Aubrey Plaza. He also worked on the English language French police television series Jo opposite Jean Reno.

He recently starred in the independent horror film The Unfolding and Identicals, a complex psychological thriller exploring the nature of identity, directed by BAFTA Award-winning director Simon Pummell. Alongside his film and television work, Lachlan has worked at the National Theatre and in various fringe theatres in London and New York.

At the beginning of his career, Lachlan co-founded, trained and directed Perennial Theatre Company (rebranded), in an attempt to emulate and imitate the infamous 1930's American Group Theatre. Perennial was a collective of theatre artists committed to functioning as a permanent theatre company in the 21st century.

In 2011-15, he starred in the Heineken "Sunrise" campaign with Audrey Napoleon, and the Mercedes-Benz "Sound with Power" campaign, alongside Tinie Tempah.

In recent years I have just missed out on awards to some exemplary batting and bowling exhibits from my teammates. I'm relieved to finally get off the mark." He continues to train.
