Biography
Lachlan Nieboer is an English actor and producer. He is best known for his role as Lieutenant Edward Courtenay in Downton Abbey, and in the film Into the White.
Early life and education
He went to St. Paul's School and then read Classics at New College, Oxford.
He trained as an actor and director at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Career
Lachlan's first job out of drama school was the role of Capt. Jack Harkness's brother Gray in the BBC hit television series Torchwood.
Lachlan played Lieutenant Edward Courtenay in the second series of Downton Abbey. He starred as Captain Davenport in the Norwegian feature film Cross of Honour (originally Into the White). He played Dominic in Mike Figgis's suspense thriller Suspension of Disbelief. He featured briefly as the lothario Ted in Fredrik Bond's Charlie Countryman opposite Shia LaBeouf and Aubrey Plaza. He also worked on the English language French police television series Jo opposite Jean Reno.
He recently starred in the independent horror film The Unfolding and Identicals, a complex psychological thriller exploring the nature of identity, directed by BAFTA Award-winning director Simon Pummell. He starred in Trendy, a thriller shot in East London, which premiered in competition at Raindance Film Festival 2017.
Most recently, he played King Nikolas in Hallmark's Royal Hearts, opposite Catch Me If You Can's James Brolin, and starred opposite Vikings star Alicia Agneson in upcoming WWII epic Little Kingdom, which is currently filming in Slovakia.
Alongside his film and television work, Lachlan has worked at the National Theatre and in various fringe theatres in London and New York.
At the beginning of his career, Lachlan co-founded, trained and directed Perennial Theatre Company (rebranded), in an attempt to emulate and imitate the infamous 1930's American Group Theatre. Perennial was a collective of theatre artists committed to functioning as a permanent theatre company in the 21st century.
In 2011-15, he starred in the Heineken "Sunrise" campaign with Audrey Napoleon, and the Mercedes-Benz "Sound with Power" campaign, alongside Tinie Tempah.
Lachlan is now producing upcoming music film Maestro, starring Klaus Maria Brandauer.
Personal life
He is an accomplished pianist.
He can speak Italian, French and Russian.
He plays cricket for the V&A. He was most recently awarded 'Cricketer of the Year' and 'Bowler of the Year', and of this he allegedly had this to say: "It's an honour to receive these awards after so many years of hard work and commitment to the V&A. In recent years I have just missed out on awards to some exemplary batting and bowling exhibits from my teammates. I'm relieved to finally get off the mark." He continues to train.
