Biography
Geraldo Gershwin Saal, widely recognized as Youngboi OG, emerged onto the global hip hop scene as a dynamic South African rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Born on September 3, 2007, in Springbok, Northern Cape, South Africa, Youngboi OG's musical journey began at a remarkably young age.
This independent 16-year-old hip hop and drill artist hails from Aggeneys, South Africa, where he kickstarted his rap career back in 2019, during his sixth-grade year. Initially known as "RALIE G," he made his mark in the Afrikaans rap scene, releasing a series of singles, EPs, and albums that showcased his prowess in the genre.
However, in a bold move reflective of his evolving vision and aspirations, Youngboi OG transitioned to rap in English in early 2023 at the age of 15. Motivated by its global reach and widespread usage, he rebranded himself under the moniker "Youngboi OG." This transformation marked a significant shift in his creative direction.
On May 26, 2023, Youngboi OG made an impactful debut with his single "I've been traumatized," featuring the producer Kontrol. The track resonated with audiences, with Youngboi OG drawing comparisons to the rap style exhibited in Superstar Pride's hit single, "Painting Pictures."
Through his artistry, Youngboi OG continues to carve a path uniquely his own, blending influences from his early Afrikaans rap days with the global appeal of English-language hip hop. Career
2019-2023: Beginnings, debut single, "The Greatest of Me"
Starting his rap journey in 2019 as an 'Afrikaanse' rapper, he transitioned to rapping in English in 2023, marking his entry into professional music releases. His debut single, "I've been traumatized," released on May 26, 2023, showcased his evolution as an artist.
On July 26, OG unveiled his latest musical endeavor, the remix of his debut single "I've been traumatized," titled "I've been traumatized (Drill)" where he started to gained traction. On October 18, 2023, he released a song titled "I don't know".
He's debut self-released EP, "The Greatest of Me," dropped on December 2, 2023. The EP consists of 4 tracks included, "Playing with my mind" and "We go that way". Notably, the entire EP was crafted using the music-making app BandLab. He released the drill single "All of Me" on December 7, shortly after the release of his EP. The beat samples John Legend's iconic track "All of Me".
2024-present: We Go That Way (Remix), “The One Piece of Me You Didn't Know Exist”
OG showcased his musical ingenuity on January 1, 2024 with the release of "We Go That Way (Remix)" featuring Nigerian rapper CB10. This remix was launched separately after the release of the EP. The original version of "We go that way" featured on his EP "The Greatest of Me." He released "Another Love" on April 24, sampling Tom Odell's iconic track "Another Love". On May 24, he followed up with the singles "Alone" and "Me and You". Gaining more traction, he released the single "How Can I Love?" on July 8, which he later released a remix with American rapper Vito on July 14. His second EP, "The One Piece of Me You Didn't Know Exist", came out on July 28, featuring six tracks, including "How Can I Love?", "Woah", "Wasted Love", and "Insufficient Love". On August 11, he released the single "Why?" featuring uuqk and TK Tokio, followed by "You're Mine Now" on August 12. He dropped the "Naruto (Blue Bird) Freestyle" on August 15, and later that day released "Frienemy", with its music video premiering two days later.
