Biography

William Hubbel Price (January 29, 1820 – October 31, 1895) was an American soldier, politician, and minister from the state of Missouri who later served as a legislator in Texas after the Civil War.

Price was born on January 29, 1820, to John G. Price and America Wilson in Kentucky. John G. Price, was a Missouri Senator and the grandson of Revolutionary War patriot and chaplain John Gano, the minister who allegedly baptized George Washington.

William Price enlisted as a private during the Mexican-American War on August 31, 1846 and was discharged at Fort Leavenworth on October 1, 1847.During the Civil War Price served as a captain in the Missouri State Guard under General Sterling Price. After the Civil War he moved to Rockwall, Texas where he was elected as the legislator for the 21st district for the 15th Texas Legislature. He also served as a Baptist minister for more than 50 years.

He died on October 31, 1895, and was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery in Rockwall, Texas.
