Vince Ector

Vincent "Vince" Ector (born July 5, 1965) is an American jazz drummer and musician.

Vince Ector was born on July 5, 1965, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He got an early start in music education, beginning at age nine through Girard Academic Music Program (GAMP), a public magnet secondary school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This enabled him to study at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while still a junior high school student. He then studied privately with celebrated drummers such as Mickey Roker, Ralph Peterson Jr., and Armand Santarelli. He also performed for six years as a percussionist with the United States Army Band.

Ector made his first recordings in 1994 with Charles Earland's album Ready 'N Ablealongside Gary Frite (percussion), David Samson (guitar), Eric Alexander (tenor saxophone), and Lew Soloff (trumpet).

In 2002, Ector produced a tribute album for Charles Earland on High Note Records (Keepers of the Flame). In 2005, he released an 11-track jazz album Renewal Of The Spirit.

In his career, Ector has played with numerous well-known musicians including Freddie Hubbard, Randy Weston, James Moody, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Gloria Lynne, Bobby Watson, Lou Donaldson, Grover Washington Jr., Lonnie Smith, Ron Carter, Claudio Roditi, John Lee, Melvin Sparks and Shirley Scott.

He has performed on several recordings, collaborating in various capacities with such musicians as Stafford Hunter, Craig Bailey, Leon Lee Dorsey, Onaje Allan Gumbs, Sharel Cassity, Stanley Cowell, Giacomo Gates, Reuben Wilson, Amos Hoffman, James Weidman, Bob DeVos, and Houston Person.

Ector has also performed live at jazz festivals throughout the world with numerous international artists including The Dizzy Gillespie Alumni All Stars & Big Band, Stanley Cowell, Houston Person, Antonio Hart, Bruce Williams, Bobby Watson & Horizon, Steve Miller, Jose Feliciano, Nat Adderley Jr., Lou Donaldson.

Ecotr has his own "Organatomy" band, a trio with Bruce Williams, Pat Bianchi, and Paul Bollenback.

Ector has taught music at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, and is currently leading the non-profit educational program Arts for Kids Inc. (West Orange, New Jersey). He is also an Artist-in-Residence for The Center for Arts Education in New York City and Arts Horizons Inc. of Englewood, New Jersey.
