Biography
Lieutenant (Dr.) Ummer Fayaz Parray was an Indian Army officer who was abducted and killed in May 2017 by Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
He had been commissioned as a lieutenant in the Indian Army on December 10, 2016 and was serving in 2nd Battalion, the Rajputana Rifles.
Abduction and killing
Lt Ummer Fayaz Parray was abducted from his uncle's house in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on the night of 9 May 2017. At the time of his abduction he was on leave from duty and was also unarmed. He had come to his uncle's house to attend a marriage ceremony in his family. His dead body was found the next morning, which showed that he had been shot twice. He was only twenty three years old.
He is survived by his parents and two sisters. His father is a farmer.
Fayaz was given a guard of honour and his funeral was attended by 400 people.
