Biography
Thomas C. Hull is an associate professor of mathematics at Western New England University and is known for his expertise in the mathematics of paper folding.
Prior to his appointment at Western New England, Hull taught at Merrimack College. He has also been teaching at the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics for many years: as junior staff from 1991 to 1995, and as senior staff in 1998 to 2007. He spent his undergraduate years at Hampshire College. Afterwards, Hull earned a MS and Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Rhode Island. His dissertation was in graph theory. Since graduating, he has been working on research problems in origami-math and teaching origami-math classes.
Hull's 2006 book Project Origami uses origami to teach math. He has co-authored two non-math origami books: Origami, Plain and Simple and Russian Origami, and he is on the Board of Directors of OrigamiUSA (a national non-profit arts organization). He is also featured in the 2010 origami documentary Between the Folds.
