Biography
Tileswar Tamuli Borbayan (তিলেশ্বৰ তামুলী, born 08-04-1954) is among one of the exponents and teachers of Sattriya Culture of Assam. He has dedicated his whole life to this tradition. He was the monk of Mul-Kamalabari Sattra (Majuli) which is now situated at Titabor of Jorhat district,Assam. [1].
Biography
His career began at Jorhat as a Sattriya teacher. He worked in the Sangeet Vidyalaya situated at Jorhat. On 7 March 1982, he was invited as a Sattriya teacher in Kalaguru Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Tezpur. He invited to go to Odissa and Digboi at the same time for continue his career but it was suggested by Bhupen Hazarika to go to Digboi and spread and practice this culture of Assam. He moved to Digboi in 1991 and is still working in Digboi. He is the principal of Digboi Sangeet Vidyalaya (Luit Shilpi Samaj). He also teaches in nearby places of Digboi like Tinsukia, Margherita, Jagun, Pengeri and so on. With the help of IOCL and Coal India, he and his institutions could build the buildings for its practice and development. Sri Tamuli Borbayan is invited as the guest trainer in Sattriya workshops in most of the places of Assam. He also directed Ankiya Bhaonas and Rasslila in many places of India. He is approved as the examiner of both the boards Sangeet Sattra and Assam Sattra Mahasabha
Early life
Shri Tamuli Tamuli was born on 8 April 1954 in Majuli. He is the third son of Lt. Jagyeswar Tamuli and Smt. Xorumai Tamuli. Due to regular floods, they shifted to Titabor. His father played khol and also played with Tamuli from a young age. One day, Sattradhikar of Kamalabari Sattra came to the Bhaona festival in his village and noticed this little child. He talked with his father to take the child with him to give him a better knowledge and education and finally he was sent to the Sattra with all the rituals. The name Tileswar was given in the Sattra, his birth name was Ramen.
Tamuli received the Bayan’s training from Jugen Borbayan and later completed his training with Lt Rameswar Borbayan. He was receiving training of Gayan and Guru Votima from Bhularaam Aatoi, Sattriya Dance from Bayanacharya Ghanakanta Bora. In 1980, he got a scholarship from the Assam Government and received training in varied dance and drama forms at Rabindra Bhawan Guwahati under the guidance of Lt Rudra Baruah. In this way he got different trainings of dance music of Assam inside and outside the Sattra and also he learned Violin, Tabla, Bharat Natyam and Kathak dance. Tamuli completed his training at a very early age and was poised to be elevated as a Barbayan, but he refused it then and only later got the title in 2008.
Personal life
He married Deepa Tamuli in 1989 and they have two daughters.

Sri Tamuli is performing in various places of India till today. Inside the Sattra he has performed Sattiya Dance, Gayan-Bayan, Ankiya Bhaona and so on.
