Biography

Stuart Rowlands is a public relations and publicity corporate sports/events specialist. Headquartered in Los Angeles, his clients have included American Honda, Anheuser-Busch, Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), Bridgestone Tires, Vic Olesen & Partners, IMG, RockResorts, Colgate-Palmolive, the Quebec Ministry of Tourism and American Suzuki. He is the former Vice President of Public Relations for IMG and is a current member of the Motor Press Guild and the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association.
National and international personalities and institutions represented include Forrest Lucas, President of Lucas Oil Products; Bob Patison, President of MAVTV; Mark McCormack, Chairman, IMG; Otis Chandler, Publisher, Los Angeles Times; John Crean, Chairman, Fleetwood Enterprises; the Nobel Institute; Ghana Airways; Action PR Group in Cyprus and such athletes as Freddie Spencer, Arnold Palmer, Muhammad Ali, Greg Norman, Nancy Lopez and Jack Nicklaus.

Recent work

In 2000, Stuart Rowlands returned to IMG as Vice President of Global Public Relations with specific responsibilities for the Nobel Peace Concert and Peace Prize. His work included public relations, publicity and production for the annual Peace Concert television special surrounding the Peace Prize awards to United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and former US President Jimmy Carter. He conducted interviews with Nobel Laureates including Northern Ireland's John Hume, South Africa's Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Polish President Lech Wałęsa.

In 2003, Rowlands returned to Los Angeles, reopening Stuart Rowlands PR, with IMG and the Nobel Institute as his first clients. In addition to his PR duties, Rowlands is a writer of magazine articles. His interviews of Michael York, Patrick Macnee and Juliet Mills and others have appeared in such diverse publications as Cyprus Airways Apollo Executive Review, Florida Tennis Magazine and the Gobannion. He is also highlighted in Peter Starr's Taking It To The Limit

Today, Stuart Rowlands PR is based in Hollywood Hills, with corporate sports clients that include Lucas Oil and MAVTV Motorsports Network. Recent consulting clients have included the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, the International Property Awards, Action PR Group in Cyprus, CXC Simulations, William Shatner's Man O' War graphic novel for the internet and various real estate projects. In July 22, 2015 Stuart Rowlands PR work was recently featured in Arizona’s Casa Grande Dispatch.

In partnership with TV and movie director Francis Megahy, Rowlands is the Executive Producer of the SRPR classic motorsports movies including the award winning 6 part “Motorsports Explained” series sponsored by Budweiser, Ford, Honda, Castrol, Michelin and Goodyear that aired on ESPN for 7 years and sold in 17 countries and are now available for sale and downloads on Amazon. For Vic Olesen and Partners, he produced, directed and wrote the syndicated “Pacific Sportsworld” weekly series for 3 years sponsored by Chevrolet, United Airlines and the The Wall Street Journal Asia. He produced and Francis Megahy directed and wrote “Hong Kong Havoc” and “Desert Duel” simulator thrill rides for Showscan Entertainment.

Early life

Born in Newport, Wales and brought up near Abergavenny, Rowlands attended Monmouth School. He moved to London in the early 1960s, where he worked with his brother publicist and music acts manager, Jonathan Rowlands. Between them, the brothers managed publicity and public relations for music acts and record companies including Rod Stewart, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Helen Shapiro and the BBC Television's International Cabaret. In 1965, Stuart opened Vital Publicity, representing such clients as Spencer Davis, Jimmy Cliff, Traffic, and Island Records before branching out into corporate PR for a diverse range of clients including, various Ghana government agencies, including Ghana Airways.

In 1974, Rowlands moved to the United States and joined the Saltman & Flood PR Agency in Los Angeles. Clients included the Ali-Frazier heavyweight fights, The Andy Williams Show and the San Diego Open. He left the agency four years later to join Trans World International (TWI) as Director of Publicity for then the world’s largest independent producer of sports programming for television. Two years later, he was promoted to Director of International Publicity for TWI’s parent company IMG, where he focused on corporate sports event coordination for player/athlete participation in such events as Wimbledon and the British Open in Europe. In the USA he worked with player/athletes competing on the US Ski Team, PGA Tour, United States Tennis Association and the LPGA tours.

In 1980, Rowlands opened Stuart Rowlands PR in Los Angeles with IMG as his first client, which included the Isle of Lanai golf course opening with Greg Norman plus Nancy Lopez national promotion tour and the Los Angeles stop for the LPGA J&B Scotch Gold Putter Award. Other corporate sports PR included Bridgestone corporate motorsports, Colgate Palmolive's Dinah Shore golf tournament, Anheuser-Busch's world land speed record attempt, Dole Food Company's Sherwood Country Club golf course opening, American Honda's motocross, road racing, ATV and dirt bike national tours plus the world 500c Grand Prix motorcycle racing circuit for Honda Racing Corporation.
