Steven Black (born 17 June 1992) is a Scottish professional footballer who plays for Scottish League Two side Annan Athletic, as a centre back.
Early life
Steven was born on 17 June 1992 in Dumfries, and attended Annan Academy as a pupil in Dumfries and Galloway.
Career
Club career
Black joined Queen of the South's youth setup at the age of eleven. After progressing through the youth ranks he signed a modern apprenticeship contract in May 2009 having already represented his country at schoolboy level.
In 2010, he was on loaned out to Gretna 2008, during his loan period he even played in goal against Hawick Royal Albert due to an injury to the keeper with no substitutes remaining.
Black made his first team debut for Queens in a 4–1 home league victory against Stirling Albion on 26 March 2011 as an 83rd-minute substitute. He made his first start for the club a month later against Ross County on the 26 April 2011 partnering David Lilley in defence in a 1–0 defeat. Black won the under-19's players’ player of the year award in June 2011.
On 4 March 2013, Black was loaned to Annan Athletic for one month. Then on 22 June 2013, he returned to Annan, this time on a permanent contract.
International career
Black was selected for Scotland international schools squad in January 2011 for the Schools Centenary International competition. He played for Scotland's under-18 national side on four occasions against Northern Ireland, England, Australia & Wales.
