Biography

Rabbi Simcha Krauss, (1937- ) a rabbi associated with the liberal end of Centrist Orthodoxy, is known for his role in the Religious Zionists of America, but since making aliyah in 2005, he has been involved with Yeshivat Eretz HaTzvi, in the Katamon neighbourhood of Jerusalem. He is part of a family of which he is the 13th of 14 generations of Rabbis.

Career

After moving from Romania as a child, he studied at Yeshivat Chaim Berlin in New York under Rabbi Yitzchok Hutner, as well as learning under Rav Soloveitchik. He was a close student of the Rav, and wrote recently an essay in the Tradition magazine, entitled 'The Rav on Zionism, Universalism and Feminism'. He lectured in political science at a number of colleges. He was a Rabbi of the Young Israel of Hillcrest and the Young Israel of St. Louis for many years, and also taught at Yeshiva University in New York. He became president of the Religious Zionists of America before making aliya in 2005.

He now teaches at Yeshivat Eretz Hatzvi in Jerusalem.
