Biography

Roddy Schrock (born 1976) is an American sound artist, composer, and audio software designer. His practice involves creating “sound objects” rooted in the embodiment of location, history, time, and culture. Currently, Schrock is the director of the residency and fellowship programs at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center.

Biography

Schrock received a BA in sociology from Mississippi State University, an MFA in electronic music and recording media from Mills College, and a certificate in sonology from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. He has lived and worked in Tokyo, the Netherlands, and Northern California and is now based in New York City. He has collaborated on projects with Alvin Curran and Pauline Oliveros.

In his current position at Eyebeam, Schrock leads the organization's residency and fellowship programs for artists and creative technologists. He is a co-founder of the Sound Research Group, which aims to explore, develop, and promote sound art through research, exhibitions, and performances.

As an educator, he has taught at STEIM and California College of the Arts. He has also lectured at De Anza College, Tsinghua University's TASML Symposium, The New School's MobilityShifts conference, and GAFFTA. Schrock has also written for New Music Box, Fucking Good Art, and e/i magazine.
