Biography

Richard Blake Newton (1801-1868) was an English landowner. He was one of the founding members of the Argentine Rural Society.

Biography

Richard was born in Surrey, England (United Kingdom), son of Richard Newton, born in Reading, and Sarah Whiffen, belonging to a family of Keston. He had completed his elementary studies in the Blue Coat School.

Richard established himself very young in Buenos Aires, and after a while he acquired land in Chascomus, where he dedicated himself to the breeding of cattle, being the first introducer of the wiring in the haciendas of the Pampas. In 1866 he participated in the foundation of the La Sociedad Rural Argentina. His son Ricardo Newton was president of the institution in 1888.

Richard Blake Newton was married to María de los Santos Vásquez, born in Buenos Aires, daughter of Cipriano Vásquez and Justa Molina, born in Córdoba.
