Biography

Raymond Thompson Hill (January 11, 1883 - 1956 ) was an American Romanist, Provençalist, Lusitanist, and Medievalist.

Life and work

Hill was born on January 11, 1883, in North Branford, Connecticut.

He received his Ph.D. from Yale University with the work (ed.) La mule sanz frain, An Arthurian romance by Païens de Maisières (Baltimore 1911). He taught at Yale as an instructor for French (1908-1916), as an assistant professor (1916-1927) and as an associate professor (1927-1949). From 1949 to 1952, he was head of the library.
