Ralph Izzo (born 20 October 1957) is an American business executive, currently the chairman and CEO of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (PSEG), since 2007.
Early life and education
Izzo was born on October 20, 1957, in New York City, New York.
He earned his Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical engineering from Columbia University, New York. He then received a Master of Business Administration degree from Rutgers Business School, New Jersey.
He also holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Columbia University.
Career
Izzo began his career as a research scientist at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, performing numerical simulations of fusion energy experiments. In 1992, he joined PSE&G and has been working with them ever since. Over the years, he was elected to several executive positions with PSE&G's family of companies, including PSE&G senior vice president – utility operations, PSE&G vice president – appliance service, PSEG vice president - corporate planning, and PSE&G vice president - electric ventures.
In October 2006, he became the President and Chief Operating Officer of PSE&G, and in April 2007, Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer.
Izzo has published or presented over 35 papers on magnetohydrodynamic modeling.
He serves as chair of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, and on the Rutgers University Board of Governors, the board of directors for The Williams Companies, the New Jersey Utilities Association, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA), and The Center for Energy Workforce Development. He is also a member of the Columbia University School of Engineering Board of Visitors and the Princeton University Adlinger Center for Energy and the Environment Advisory Council, as well as a member of the Visiting Committee for the Department of Nuclear Engineering at MIT.
