Biography

Rachel Neaman (born 30 August 1965) is CEO of Corsham Institute (Ci), a not-for-profit organisation working for a fair, inclusive, prosperous and creative society based on trust and security.

Early life

The daughter of the late violinist Yfrah Neaman and the late City of London GP Dr Gill Neaman, Rachel was born in London and educated at St Paul's Girls' School and the University of Cambridge.

Career

After an early career in publishing and publications management, Neaman worked at the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction in Lisbon, Portugal, and Flextech Television in London before joining the UK Department of Health (DH). Following the formation of the Government Digital Service in 2011, Neaman became the Department's first Digital Leader and developed the first DH digital strategy.

In 2014, she moved from DH to become CEO of Go ON UK, the organisation chaired by Baroness Martha Lane Fox to ensure everyone had the basic digital skills they needed in the digital age. On 1 April 2016, Go ON UK merged with Doteveryone, founded by Martha Lane Fox to address the social and moral issues created by the internet age. Neaman led on digital skills and transformation, as well as managing Doteveryone's strategic partnerships with organisations including the BBC, BT, Google, Lloyds Banking Group and Sage Group.

Rachel is known as a specialist in digital strategy, transformation, skills and inclusion. In May 2017 she became the first CEO of the Corsham Institute. Based in Corsham, Wiltshire, and in London, Ci focuses on education and research, going beyond traditional ideas of knowledge to promote lifelong learning in the digital age. It empowers citizens to develop the critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills they need to make the most of the opportunities our increasingly networked, connected and data-rich society provides. It does this through a range of programmes covering research, learning and enterprise.

From 2013 to 2016, Neaman was Chair of Digital Leaders, a global initiative that has created a platform for expert opinion and networking on digital transformation for senior leaders from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. She now serves as a non-executive member of the Advisory Board under the new Chair, Lord Francis Maude. She is a member of the Government's Council for Digital Inclusion, chaired by Matthew Hancock MP, and a non-executive member of the Digital.Health London Advisory Board and the UKCloud Health Advisory Board.

Neaman is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars, a frequent judge of digital awards and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA).

Awards

Neaman was awarded the inaugural Founder's Award at the Digital Leaders 100 Awards 2017.[1]

Neaman was voted 20th in Computer Weekly's list of 50 Most Influential Women in IT 2016.
