Biography

Rachel Burnett, FBCS, CITPis a British expert on information technology law.
After obtaining a degree in sociology at the University of Exeter, she worked in a range of roles including systems analysis and development and project management. During this time she studied law via a correspondence courseand in 1985 she became a partner in an early IT legal practice.
After partnerships in several IT legal practices,Burnett ran her own IT law company for seven years before becoming head of IT and intellectual property at Paris Smith LLP in Southampton, Hampshire.

Books and other publications

She wrote a book, Outsourcing IT - The Legal Aspects, published by Gower and co-authored Drafting and Negotiating Computer Contracts with Paul Klinger.

Professional Activities

In 2007 to 2008. Burnett served as president of the British Computer Society (BCS). She has chaired the BCS Management Forum and sat on the BCS Security Committee. In addition, Burnett is a former chair of the Association of Women Solicitors and of the Institute for the Management of Information Systems.

She currently lectures part-time for the Open University in the United Kingdom.
