Philip Danforth Armour

Philip Danforth Armour (May 16, 1832 – January 6, 1901) was an American meatpacking industrialist and philanthropist. He was the founder of Armour and Company, which became one of the world's leading food processing and chemical manufacturers.

Armour started his career in California during the gold rush, first as a miner, then a merchant. He opened a small business, which quickly grew into a successful enterprise that supplied food to miners and other workers.

Armor's company became a leading force in the American meatpacking industry. It pioneered many innovative processes for preserving and packaging meat, helping to establish the United States as a major meat exporter.
