Phil Martelli

Phil Martelli is an American college basketball coach and the former head coach of the Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team. He coached at Saint Joseph's for 24 seasons from 1995 to 2019.

During his tenure at Saint Joseph's University, Martelli had a coaching record of 444 wins and 328 losses, giving him the most wins in school history. He led the Hawks to seven NCAA Tournament appearances and won six Atlantic 10 regular-season championships.

Martelli received numerous accolades throughout his coaching career, including being named the Naismith Coach of the Year in 2004. He led the Saint Joseph's Hawks to an undefeated regular season in 2003-2004 and an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Martelli also coached several players who went on to have successful NBA careers, including Jameer Nelson and Delonte West.

After leaving Saint Joseph's University in 2019, Martelli joined the coaching staff of the University of Michigan as an assistant coach under head coach Juwan Howard. He helped lead the Wolverines to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament in his first season with the team.

As of now, Phil Martelli is not a member of any Hall of Fame. However, his successful coaching career and numerous accomplishments make him a strong candidate for future induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
