Biography

Patrícia Medici is a Brazilian wild-life conservationist, and the Research Coordinator for Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative, Brazil.

Background

Medici was born and raised in Brazil.

She is the chairperson of the IUCN SSC Tapir Specialist Group, where she took part in developing an international network of 130 tapir conservationists from 27 different countries.

Medici has been working towards the wild-life conservation for around 27 years. Her focus has been on the lowland tapirs and their remaining habitats in Brazil as part of the Brazilian nonprofit Instituto de Pesquisas Ecológicas (Institute for Ecological Research).

In 2019, for her work in conservation, she, along with conservationist Tomas Diagne, received the National Geographic/Buffet Award for Leadership and Conservation at 2019 Explorers Festival. The award celebrates Latin American and African conservationists that have demonstrated exceptional leadership to preserve and change the public’s relationship with the natural resources in their regions.
