Pablo Kuri-Morales

Pablo Kuri-Morales (born November 10, 1961, Mexico City) earned his medical degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He holds a master's degree in Science and specialized in Public Health certified by the Specialty Council (Consejo de la Especialidad). Kuri-Morales is member of the National Academy of Medicine of Mexico, the Mexican Surgery Academyand the Mexican Public Health Society. He is recognized as one of the world health experts in emergencies, security and pandemics. In 2009, he collaborated in the response against influenza AH1N1 pandemic and has led the Mexican response to threats as anthrax, influenza, Ebola, SARS among others. He has been part of more than 20 health fieldwork missions and as head of the health response to natural disasters such as hurricanes “Paulina”, “Ingrid”, “Manuel” and “Odile” since 1997.

Dr. Pablo Kuri-Morales has held not only positions in the Mexican Health Public sector but also in the Private Sector, among them: Scientific Director of Sanofi Aventis Mexico (2009-2011), General Director of the National Center for Epidemiological Surveillance and Disease Control (CENAVECE) of the Federal Health Ministry (2007-2009), General Director of Epidemiology at the Undersecretariat of Prevention and Health Promotion, Federal Ministry of Health (1997-2006).

Since 1986 he has been teaching at Faculty of Medicine of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), supervising academic research on diverse topics, and educating outstanding health specialists including epidemiologists. To date, he has more than 129 papers of national and international levels on issues relating to epidemiology, addiction prevention and public policies. He has written numerous chapters in books in his field of expertise; it’s important to emphasize that there are more than 600 citations of his articles and other publications.

Throughout his career, Dr. Pablo Kuri has received several awards as Person of the year 2015in the ASPID Awards, Iberoamerican Advertising Communication of Health and Pharmacy, Byblos Merit Award 2015in the category of Science, Directive Council Lebanese Center, A.C. and the Byblos Association, May 13, 2015, the Prize Doctor Gerardo Varela, General Health Council, Ministry of Health, April 2014 and he received an award for his research “Histopathological registry of neoplasia in Mexico, 1994” obtaining the first place in the social research category in the Cancer program Aida Weiss and the University Program of Health Research, October 1996.
