Biography
Prof. Oded Lowengart is Professor of Marketing at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) in Israel, where he holds the Ernest Scheller, Jr. Chair in Innovative Management. He is also in his second term as Dean of the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Managementa
Lowengart’s areas of interest include modeling consumer perceptions and consumer choice, market share forecasting and diagnostics. His current research focuses on modeling issues in areas such as consumers’ food and fast food product choice, the effect of information and its intensity on choice processes, consumer heterogeneity, reference price, and network and social marketing.
His research on pricing aims to understand and analyze the differential effect of price expectations on consumers’ choice and optimal pricing policies. His research in information and food choices examines theoretically and empirically the effect of negative and calorie types of information on fast food selection as well as the overall phenomenon of obesity. Current research projects also involve modeling social personal branding and its effect on pro-social behavior.
Lowengart holds a PhD from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Biography
Oded Lowengart was born and raised in an agricultural community, Ben Ami, near Naharia, Israel, specializing in avocado growing and animal husbandry. He was educated in these fields and his early career includes specialization in soil and irrigation science. Before joining the academic world, Lowengart served as a senior coordinator for planning and development in the Ministry of Agriculture in Israel.
Academic career
Lowengart began his academic career in 1996 as a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration at the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management (GGFBM), BGU. Between 2004-2005 he was Visiting Associate Professor]at Sheldon Lubar School of Business Administration, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In 2003 Lowengart became Senior lecturer in the GGFBM Department of Business Administration, and in 2009 became Associate professor and was elected Chairman of the Department, a position he held until 201 Lowengart was elected Dean of the Faculty in 2013, and since 2014 has been Full Professor, in the Department of Business Administration in the GGFBM. Lowengart is now in his second term as Dean of the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management.
Business leadership
After completing his Bachelor degree in Soil and Irrigation Science, Lowengart worked for the Ministry of Agriculture in North Western Israel for more than seven years. Initially as an agricultural planner and later as the senior coordinator for agricultural planning and development for that region Subsequently, he was also appointed as the deputy director of that region.
