Biography
Nurettin Canikli (born May 15, 1960 in Alucra, Giresun Province) is a Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, in office since 24 May 2016. He formerly served as the Minister of Customs and Trade of Turkey from 2014 to 2015. He is a Member of Parliament for Giresun of the ruling Justice and Development Party.
After finishing the İmam Hatip school in Giresun, he studied Economics at the Faculty of Political Science, Ankara University graduating with a Bachelors's degree. Canikli obtained a Master's degree in Finance from University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
He worked in various positions in the Ministry of Finance. He was a columnist at the daily Yeni Şafak.
Canikli became one of the co-founders of the Justice and Development Party. In the 2002 general election, he was elected Deputy of Giresun. In the 2007 and 2011 elections, he secured his seat in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). On August 29, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Customs and Trade in the Cabinet of Ahmet Davutoğlu.
Canikli is married and father of four children.
