Biography
Nathan Scherrer, born 1988 in Northport, Michigan, is an American music video and commercial executive producer and creative producer who has been nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Pharrell William's Freedom and Dead Weather's I Feel Love, and in 2017 won the Grammy for Best Music Video for Beyonce’s Formation videowhich was directed by Melina Matsoukas. The video also won the Cannes Gran Prix Best Music Video award and the best music video of year award at the BET Awards. It also won the video of year at the VMAs in 2017. He was also among several producers who were nominated for Beyonces music film, Lemonade, which won the best long form music video award at the 2017 VMAs.
In 2017, at the annual advertising festival, Cannes Lions, in France, Nathan Scherrer also picked up a bronze award for Unacceptable Letter, a controversial campaign he produced about rape on college campuses that led to a national debate and encouraged universities around the United States to issue public statements condemning past crimes and take a stand against future incidents of violence on their campuses.
The 2011 university of Michigan graduate first arrived in Los Angeles shortly after leaving college with a double major in Sociology and Screen Arts & Cultures and a Screenwriting Sub-Major and got his start as an intern in Hollywood. In 2013 he produced his first music video, entitled Back To Me for artist Joel Compass. The video, which on the 2014 Jury Award at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin Texas, has surprised half a million views on line. Following that first video, he produced Justin Timberlake's Tunnel Vision.
Scherrer is currently the president Freenjoy, a Los Angeles-based company, whose first music video, The Weekend’s 2015 The Hills, has surpassed one billion views on-line. In March 2017, Freenjoy produced Kendrick Lamar's music video for his song Humble.
