Biography

Nate Steel is a Democratic former member of the Arkansas House of Representatives from the 19th District from 2011 to 2015. During the 89th General Assembly from 2013 to 2015, Representative Steel served on the Judiciary committee.He also served on the Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Development committee as Vice Chairperson and he is also a part of the Joint Budget Committee.During the 88th General Assembly from 2011 to 2013, Steel served on the House Judiciary Committee; the Joint Budget Committee; and the State Agencies and Governmental Affairs Committee.

Steel is an attorney and deputy prosecutor of the 9th Judicial District, West. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and his J.D. degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law, also located in Fayetteville. He is a graduate of Nashville High School in Nashville, Arkansas. He is a Methodist.

Personal life

Steel is an attorney and Deputy Prosecuting Attorney of the 9th Judicial District, West. He earned a J.D. from the University of Arkansas, where he also earned an undergraduate degree in psychology. He is a graduate of Nashville High School. Steel serves on the Howard Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, the Cossatot Community College U of A Foundation Board of Directors, and CASA for Children Board of Advisors.

Political life

Steel ran unsuccessfully for Attorney General of Arkansas in 2014.He described his reason for running, accordingly: "My passion has always been criminal justice. As a Prosecutor, I have a proven record of convicting violent criminals who raped and murdered innocent women or hurt children. My experience as a Prosecutor helped shaped my view that the role of the Attorney General is to protect Arkansas' citizens and our constitution."Nate Steel accepted the 2014 Outstanding Representative of the Year award from the Arkansas Fraternal Order of Police."Nate Steel has always been on the front line on issues important to us, like combating crime and upholding the Rule of Law," said Allen Hamby, president of the Arkansas Fraternal Order of Police. "We support Nate in his efforts to become Arkansas's next Attorney General.""As a former prosecutor and legislator, I spent my career working with law enforcement to protect Arkansans and victims of violent crime. I'm humbled by this award. As your next Attorney General, I will make the safety of Arkansas children my top priority," Steel stated.

He lost to the Republican nominee, Leslie Rutledge. Steel's state House seat was also won by a Republican, Justin Gonzales.

Nate Steel's introductory campaign commercial, posted on YouTube, identifies prison overcrowding in Arkansas as a problem because the state has the second-worst meth rate in America.

Steel was the only Democrat running statewide who garnered the endorsement of the National Rifle Association.
