Biography
Nate Heisler is a MLBPA certified sports agent at Beverly Hills Sports Council. Heisler represents Major League Baseball players Dee Gordon, Liam Hendriks, Chase Whitley, Andrew Lambo, Reid Brignac, Jharel Cotton and Robert Gsellman, among others. Along with BHSC founding partner, Rick Thurman, Heisler has represented current Major League Baseball players such as Tim Lincecum and Hunter Pence, as well as former players Trevor Hoffman and Tom "Flash" Gordon.
Career
Heisler graduated from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California before being admitted to the California Bar as an attorney in 2004. While completing law school, Heisler began working at Beverly Hills Sports Council as the Director of Equipment and Trading Cards. As Director of Equipment and Trading Cards, Heisler negotiated Albert Pujols’ Nike deal valued at more than $3 million in 2007. This was one of the biggest baseball equipment contracts at that time. Heisler also worked in many other roles in the company such as client services, autograph signings, salary arbitration and contract negotiation before eventually transitioning into his current role as a full-time agent.
2009
In February 2009, Heisler and Beverly Hills Sports Council defeated the Miami Marlins in baseball salary arbitration when Dan Uggla won his hearing, securing a $5.35 million salary for one year.
2011
In February 2011, Heisler and Beverly Hills Sports Council defeated the Houston Astros in baseball salary arbitration when Hunter Pence won his hearing, securing the $6.9 million salary he sought for the 2011 season. It was the Astros' first loss in arbitration since 1996.
2014
Heisler advised Nick Gordon during the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft, where Gordon was picked 5th overall by the Minnesota Twins. Heisler negotiated Gordon's signing bonus worth $3,851,000 million.
2015
Heisler negotiated Juan Hillman's $825,000 signing bonus with the Cleveland Indians. Hillman was the 59th overall pick in the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft.
Heisler negotiated Dee Gordon's one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Miami Marlins to avoid arbitration in 2015.
2016
In January 2016, Heisler negotiated Dee Gordon's five-year, $50 million extension with the Miami Marlins.
During the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft, Heisler advised Jesus Luzardo, one of the most highly touted high school left-handed pitchers in the draft. Heisler negotiated Luzardo’s signing bonus of $1.4 million with the Washington Nationals. Luzardo’s signing bonus was more than double the assigned value for his slot (94th overall pick) and one of the highest bonuses ever negotiated for a high-school pitcher in the middle of recovery from Tommy John surgery.
In November 2016, Heisler negotiated Stefen Romero’s seven-figure guarantee with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
2017
Heisler negotiated Liam Hendriks' one-year, $1.1 million deal with the Oakland Athletics to avoid arbitration in 2017.
During the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft, Heisler advised Jacob Pearson, who was drafted in the third round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Heisler negotiated Pearson's $1 million signing bonus.
In August 2017, Heisler negotiated former Seattle Mariners outfielder Stefen Romero's two-year, $5 million extension with a third-year option for $4 million with the Orix Buffaloes of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Personal life
Heisler lives in Los Angeles, California with his wife, Nicole Brown, SVP of TriStar Productions (Sony Pictures). Together they have one son, Theo (born 2017). Her noted production credits include films such as This Is The End, 50/50, Neighbors, Last Vegas, Money Monster and Trainspotting 2.
