Biography
Elin Margareta (Meta) Torvalds (* 14. Januar 1922 in Korsholm; † 10. Februar 2012 in Turku) war eine finnisch-schwedische Journalistin und Finnlands erste weibliche Chefredakteurin.
Torvalds arbeitete als Redakteurin von 1946 bis 1948 bei der Zeitung Österbottningenund ab 1948 bei Åbo Underrättelser, wo sie von 1971 bis 1977 Chefredakteurin war. Sie erhielt 1975 den Topeliuspriset, einen Preis für schwedische Publizistik in Finnland. 1983 wurde ihr der Kyrkans informationspris (Kirchliche Auszeichnung) verliehen und 1985 der Åbolands kulturpris. Die Ehrendoktorwürde an der Åbo Akademi erhielt sie 2002. Seit 1948 war sie mit Ole Torvalds verheiratet.
