Święcenia kapłańskie otrzymał 20 czerwca 1981 z rąk kard. Joacchima Meisnera.
Episkopat
18 lutego 2009 został mianowany biskupem pomocniczym archidiecezji berlińskiej, ze stolicą tytularną Thibaris. Sakry biskupiej udzielił mu kard. Georg Sterzinsky.
