Mathew Thomas (born 16 October 2002) is a Malayalam film actor. He is one of the most successful newcomers in the Malayalam film industry for the year 2019-20. Mathew made his acting debut in Kumbalangi Nights (2019) at the age of 16, playing one of the 4 siblings about whom the story was built.
Early life
Mathew Thomas was born on 16 October 2002 in Thiruvamkulam, Ernakulam district of Kerala, India. His father, Biju John Thuruthiyil, works as a Civil Engineer and his mother, Susan is a senior secondary school teacher in Mathematics. Mathew has an elder brother, John Thomas.
Mathew did his play schooling at Hagia Sophia Public School Ernakulam. He also studied in Indian School, Manama, Bahrain for few years while his parents were employed there temporarily. Upon return, he joined Gregorian Public School Mardu Eranakulam from where he was auditioned for his first movie Kumbalangi Nights.
Career
Kumbalangi Nights : Debut
Mathew played the role of Franky Napolean, one of the 4 orphaned siblings in the lead role, alongside Soubin Shahir, Shane Nigam, Sreenath Bhasi, Anna Ben, Fahadh Faasil and Grace Antony. Franky is a district level football player, who also keeps their home, up and running, because, all his siblings are either drunk or always out with their friends.
Mathew was auditioned from his schooland had to learn several skills like swimming in the deep, casting a net, play football, row a boat etc. Since it was his debut, he spent 6 months at the location of the movie, undergoing several training sessions with the experienced, coming home only once or twice a month. The movie was a great success and Mathew's performance was very well received considering that it was his debut movie.
2019-present
Mathew's soon cast into his second film Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, as a high-school student Jaison. The third movie Mathew appears in is Midhun Manuel Thomas's Anjaam Pathiraa where he plays the younger days of the antagonist, Dr. Benjamin Louis.
