Biography

Maria Del Rey is a Cuban-American recording artist, film producer, and family media publisher.

Early life

Maria Del Rey was born in Havana, Cuba and was raised in Miami after her family left Cuba for America. She played the cello as a youth, and attended the University of Miami, later also attending UCLA.

Music career

In 1990, Maria Del Rey released the Pop single "Zize", which was released in Japan on Rackyo Records. She was also a musician contributing to releases by artists including Enrique Iglesias, Julio Iglesias, and Luis Miguel. Her album Lullabies of Latin America/Canciones de Cuna de Latinoamerica received a nomination for the 2000 Latin Grammy Award for Best Latin Children's Album. The album was a bilingual work of traditional lullabies with English verses written by Del Rey. The following year, she released her album Universe of Song: Sing a Song, Learn a Language!

In all, Del Rey produced about thirty children’s albums, including her CD The Peanut Man. She also sang on advertising campaigns for companies including Sears, McDonalds, Ford, and Coca-Cola for its campaign “Always Coca-Cola”. She also performed on the Spanish versions of The Flintstones and Land Before Time. In 2000 Del Rey developed and performed in the stage show The Bridge: El Puente, a bilingual concert tour of Latin American music and cultures. She has also produced other stage work and has worked as a film producer. Maria Del Rey is the founder of Childgood Magazine: The Journal for Creative Families, and has produced parenting tools and media through her Childgood publishing company.

Personal life

Del Rey is married to recording artist Jim Schaller.
