Biography

Kershasp Tehmurasp Satarawala (1916–2001) was an Indian civil servant and diplomat, who served as the Indian Ambassador to countries such as Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador. He was a recipient of the honor of Burma Star. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1983, for his contributions to society.

Biography

Born on 15 February 1916 in Satara, in the western Indian state of Maharashtra to Tehmurasp Pirosha Satarawala and Meherbai Chiber, Satarawala secured his graduate (1937) and master's degrees (1939) from Nowrosjee Wadia College, Pune and Government College, Lahore respectively before joining Indian Administrative Service in 1947 and continued till 1976, completing his service as the secretary-general of the Family Planning Association India. After fulfilling duties as the vice-chairman of the organizing committee of the 1982 Asian Games, he served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Union territories of Goa, Daman and Diu from February 1983 to July 1984 and as the governor of Punjab from July 1984 to March 1985. Subsequently, he served as the Indian Ambassador to Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala from 1985. A recipient of the Burma Star Medal, he was a member of the director boards of Tata Chemicals, Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals, Indian Oil Corporation, Air India and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and chaired the board of Gujarat Aromatics Limited, Baroda. In 1983, the Government of India included him in the Republic Day Honours list for the civilian award of the Padma Bhushan. He was married to Frainy Kaikhushru Bilimoria and the couple had three daughters. He died on 20 April 2001 in Chandigarh at the age of 85.
