Biography
Karl Franz Eibl (23 July 1891 – 21 January 1943) was a German general during World War II and recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords, which was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership.
Eibl was killed north-west of Stalingrad on the 21st of January 1943, when Italian soldiers mistook his command vehicle for a Soviet armored car and blew it up with hand grenades.
