John Scott Redd

John Scott Redd (October 28, 1942 – May 8, 2015) was a United States Navy admiral who served as the first Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) from 2005 to 2007. He also served as the Ambassador and the Coordinator for Counterterrorism from 2007 to 2008.

Apart from being the first Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), John Scott Redd also served as the Commander of the Naval Safety Center, Special Assistant to the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, Special Assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations, and Director of Navy Program Planning.

During his career, John Scott Redd received numerous awards and honors including the Defense Superior Service Medal, the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the Director of Central Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, and the Legion of Merit. He was recognized for his exceptional leadership and contributions to counterterrorism efforts.

John Scott Redd held various roles outside of his military and counterterrorism career. He served as a Vice President of Alion Science and Technology and as the Chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security. Additionally, he was involved in numerous consulting and advisory roles related to national security.

John Scott Redd passed away on May 8, 2015, at the age of 72. His death was mourned by many in the military and national security community who recognized his significant contributions to counterterrorism efforts.
