Jessica E. Lessin is an award-winning journalist and Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the technology website, The Information. Before starting The Information in December 2013, Jessica spent 8 years at The Wall Street Journal covering the technology and media industries.
Early life and education
Lessin was born Jessica Elizabeth Vascellaro. She graduated from Harvard University in 2005, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in history. She lives in San Francisco.
Career
At the WSJ she wrote more than 1000 articles and news stories while covering Apple, Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Twitter and other global technology and telecom companies companies. She was part of the team that was a 2012 Pulitzer Finalist for a series on digital privacy. The team won a public service award from the Society of Professional Journalists for that same series. Jessica has appeared on CNBC, NPR, CNN and PBS's "The Charlie Rose Show" and is a regular speaker at international conferences. Jessica was listed in 2014 as an Influential Woman in Technology by Business Insider.
Relationship with Mark Zuckerberg
Lessin's husband Sam is a close friend of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, from the time they spent together as students at Harvard University. Sam Lessin was brought into Facebook when his company Drop.io was acquired in 2010. Lessin left Facebook on August 29, 2014. The close connection that Jessica Lessin has with Zuckerberg and Facebook has been raised as compromising her journalistic independence.
