Biography
Jamienne S. Studley served under President Barack Obama as the Deputy Under Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education from September 2013 to January 2016. She was the first female president of Skidmore College in New York.
Career
Under President Jimmy Carter, Studley was a special assistant on food and health issues. In New York, she was the president of Skidmore College. She was also president of the consumer law and advocacy group, Public Advocates. Under President Bill Clinton, she worked for the Department of Education as its head lawyer.
Studley was an official during the second term of Barack Obama's presidential administration, first under Martha Kanter, the Under Secretary of Education. She was an advisor before September 2013 when she became the Deputy Under Secretary. Kater resigned and Studley served as acting Under Secretary until May 2014 when Ted Mitchell filled the position. While at the Department, she also served as acting assistant secretary for postsecondary education. She worked on addressing sexual assaults on college campuses and development of a ratings system proposal for higher education, which was not implemented due to opposition. Instead, the limited College Scorecard was chosen. She left the position in November 2015.
Personal life
Studley lives in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and while at the Department of Education under Obama she lived in California and Washington, D.C. During that time, her husband lived in California.
