Biography

James S. Parkes (1897 – 1985) was an American Republican Party politician, who served on the Red Bank, New Jersey Borough Council and as a member of the Monmouth County, New Jersey Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Biography

Parkes unsuccessfully ran for Red Bank Borough Council in 1926. In 1929, he ran again and was elected. He was reelected in 1932.

In 1935, Parkes was elected to the Board of Chosen Freeholders; he would serve five, three-year terms. Parkes was chosen as Director of the Board for the years 1948 through 1950.

The Grace and James S. Parkes 1920 Prize at Dartmouth College was established in 1986, the year after his death, in honor of him and his wife, Grace.
