Biography

Jack Green is one of the first three men in the United Kingdom to be graded to first dan black belt in Shotokan Karate, was one of the original members of the KUGB and was the first KUGB national kumite champion.

Biography

Jack Green trained at the Red Triangle club in Liverpool and was instructed by Hirokazu Kanazawa and then Keinosuke Enoeda. In 1966, Green became the third person to pass a grading in the UK for a black belt in Shotokan karate, following Red Triangle clubmates Andy Sherry and Joseph Chialton. Green, alongside Sherry and Eddie Whitcher were also the first to be graded 2nd Dan in the United Kingdom, gaining their grade in 1967 at Crystal Palace.

In 1967 Green won the inaugural KUGB kumite championships.

In 1969, he founded the Blackpool School of Karate affiliated to the British Karate Federation. After Jack Green left the club, Sensei Ian Smith took over at Revoe Gymnasium and the club then joined the Shotokan Karate International under Asano Kancho and later Mr Kanazawa's 'Kodokai' under Kato Kancho. Mr Kato later affiliated with the International Japan Karate Association, under the late Asai Kancho.
