Biography

Ismayil Jafarpour (Azerbaijani: İsmayıl Cəfərpur; 5 March 1925 - 18 February 1977) Azerbaijani orientalist, poet. During the period of the Azerbaijan National Government, he was appointed the head of the partisan detachment, the military commandant of the city of Salmas, and the chief of police in the cities of Salmas and Tabriz. He was awarded the "21 Azer" Medal for his work. After the fall of the National Government of Azerbaijan, he moved to Baku and graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of ASU. Here he engaged in scientific and literary activities.

Life

Ismayil Gahraman Oglu Jafarpur was born on March 5, 1925, in Sadaqian village of Salmas district. In 1942, he joined the Tudeh Party and worked in the propaganda department in Salmas. Later, he worked as part of a partisan detachment. During the time of the National Government of Azerbaijan, he was the head of the partisan detachment, the military commandant of the city of Salmas. He was awarded the "21 Azer" Medal for his revolutionary activity. After receiving the rank of lieutenant, Salmas was appointed the head of the city militia. At the end of 1945, he was appointed the head of the Tabriz city militia department. After the collapse of the National Government of Azerbaijan, he moved to North Azerbaijan. Here he graduated from the school of dentistry in 1947, and in 1956 from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of ASU.

He died on February 18, 1977, in Baku.

Works

He started his literary activity in 1948. The first collection of poems "Thoughts of the Hero" was published in Azernashr in 1956. In 1956–1958, he was a special correspondent of "Azerbaijan" newspaper, and later studied at the Institute of World Literature named after M. Gorky in Moscow. He also worked as the head of the fiction department in "Azerbaijan" newspaper, an organ of the Azerbaijani Democratic Party.
