Biography

Idan Santhaus is a New York-based jazz musician. He plays saxophone and flute.

Biography

Idan Santhaus was born in Israel and emigrated to the United States in 2001 to pursue a career in music. He attended State University of New York, Purchase, where he studied with celebrated jazz artists such as bassist Todd Coolman and trumpeter Jon Faddis. After finishing the course at SUNY, Purchase, he continued his music education, participating in the BMI Jazz Composers' Workshop, which brought him in contact with writer-mentors like pianists Jim McNeely, Mike Abene, and Mike Holober

Santhaus has arranged for the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Israeli pop singer Ran Cohen, and for the SUNY Purchase Jazz Orchestra.

In 2013, he released his debut album There You Are under Posi-Tone label. The album was recorded with two different 16-piece ensembles in 2008 and 2011 and features various well-known jazz musicians including Jon Gordon (saxophone), Frank Basile (baritone saxophone, bass clarinet), Todd Coolman (bass), John Bernard Riley (drums), Andy Hunter (trombone), Michael Dease (trombone), Bruce Harris (trumpet) and Seneca Black (trumpet) among others. Santhaus played flute only on one track and restricted his duties to writing and composition.
