Biography
Hugo Johnson (April 25, 1886—April 2, 1976) was a Swedish-born accordion player and composer in the USA.
Hugo Johnson was born on April 25, 1886, in Umeå, Sweden. He emigrated to the United States around 1902, settling first in Brooklyn, New York. Later he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he was naturalized in 1939.
Johnson actively recorded from the late 1910s through the late 1920s for Victor (1917-1919), Columbia (1921-1925), and Edison (1925-1926). He was often accompanied by his wife, Nina Johnson, and sometimes by fellow accordionist Fritz Aase.
He composed the waltz "Kristiania", also known as "Oslo-Valsen".
Death
Johnson died in his hometown, Umeå, Sweden, on April 2, 1976, at age 89.
