Biography
Guðmundur "Gordon" Sigurjonson (April 15, 1883 in Norður-Þingeyjarsýsla, Iceland – 1967 Reykjavík) was an Icelandic-Canadian professional ice hockey coach. He coached the Winnipeg Falcons to the gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics. He showcased Glíma, an Icelandic martial arts, at the 1908 Summer Olympics.
He served in the Canadian military from 1916 to 1919, becoming a Sergeant in the 27th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Prior to that was the trainer of the Falcons. After the 1920 Olympics, he moved home to Iceland where he worked within sports.
In 1924, Guðmundur was sentenced to eight months in prison for having sexual relations with another man. He served three months of the sentence. He is the only person to have served a prison sentence for violating the Icelandic sodomy law.
