Biography
Gary Chaloner is an Australian comic book artist and writer. Born in Sydney in 1963, he began self publishing in 1985 with David de Vries, Glenn Lumsden and Tad Pietrzykowski under the Cyclone Comics imprint. He has collaborated with Ashley Wood, Ben Templesmith, Kurt Busiek, Stephen Jewell and Tim Byrd. He is the writer/artist of Will Eisner's John Law, Red Kelso, The Jackaroo, Flash Damingo, Morton Stone: Undertaker (with Ashley Wood and Ben Templesmith) and "Planet of the Apes: Urchak's Folly" (with Dillon Naylor and Greg Gates). He has also worked for Marvel Comics, DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics in the United States.
In 2002, he worked with Will Eisner to develop new stories featuring the Eisner creations John Law, Lady Luck and Mr. Mystic. These stories were first published online and then were published in 2004 by IDW Publishing. He is still producing new stories for this project.
In 2005, he inaugurated the Ledger Awards, Australian comic book awards that 'acknowledge excellence and achievement in Australian comic arts and publishing'.
His current project is a web comic of Conan creator Robert E. Howard's comedy western character, Breckinridge Elkins.
He currently resides in Tasmania, Australia.
