Biography
Finian Tan is a venture capitalist and entrepreneur. He is chairman of Vickers Venture Partners. Previously, Tan was previously asked to be a judge on the Singapore reality program Angel's Gate.
Career
Tan served two and a half years in the Singaporean Armed Forces. He was placed in the Armed Forces Counseling Center to counsel his peers.
He became chief trader for Shell Japan, and then worked for J Aron & Co., a Goldman Sachs company. In 1996, Tan earned his qualification to work for elite public service posts in Singapore, and became deputy secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry. After that, he worked as deputy chairman of the National Science & Technology Board. In 2000, Tan became a partner at Draper Fisher, a venture capital firm. Tan later became head of Credit Suisse First Boston group of banks in Singapore and Malaysia .
In 2004, he and three partners founded Vickers Capital Group. Vickers invests in companies including United Airlines, Asian Food Channel and Vitamin Research Asia Pacific. Also in 2004, Tan became co-chairman of the organizational committee of a campaign called "Romancing Singapore." The campaign was aimed at raising reproduction rates in Singapore by making the country more romantic.
In 2011, Tan was asked to be a judge on the Singapore reality program Angel's Gate. Angel's Gate is a reality series where entrepreneurs attempt to earn investment offers produced by Interactive SG.
Other activities
Tan was the chairman of the investment review committee of the Media Development Authority in Singapore. He is the primary shareholder and chairman of California InterContinental University, having invested $11.5 million in the school. Tan was on the board of Majulah Connection and United Eagle Airlines. He has served on the National Arts Council and the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
