Biography
Edward Jones (1653 - 10 June 1737) was a Canon of Windsor from 1684-1737.
Family
Jones was the son of Sir Thomas Jones, Chief Justice of the Common Pleas 1671, and Jane Bavand.
He married Katherine Fulham, daughter of Edward Fulham, Canon of Windso and widow of Robert Waith.
Career
He was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where he was awarded BA in 1675, MA in 1678, BD in 1720 and was Fellow from 1677 to 1682.
He was ordained deacon and priest by the Bishop of London on 29 May 1681.
He was appointed:
- Vicar of St Mark's Church, Brithdir 1682 - 1705
- Rector of Hodnet until 1702
- Chaplain to Francis North, 1st Baron Guilford
- Chancellor of the diocese of St David’s 1713 - 1723
- Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral 1723 - 1733
He was appointed to the third stall in St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle, in 1684, a position he held until 1737.
