Biography
Édouard Ngirente (born 1973) is a Rwandan economist and politician. He serves as the Prime Minister of Rwanda, since 30 August 2017, having been appointed by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame.
Background and education
Édouard Ngirente was born in Rwanda in 1973. He studied at the National University of Rwanda, graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics and statistics. He followed that with a master's degree in economics from the same institution. He also holds a PhD in economics awarded by the Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium.
Career
He lectured at the National University of Rwanda until 2010. He was then appointed director-general in charge of planning at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. He was promoted to senior advisor in the same ministry within a year. On 30 March 2011, Cabinet granted him indefinite leave to take up an appointment as senior advisor to the executive director of the World Bank in Washington. He was named Prime Minister on 30 August 2017.
