Biography
Dr. Ishwarchandra Ramchandra Karkare is a classical singer from Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh). He is credited for the improvisation of Hindustani Vocal Music , known as The Khayal Sangeet.
Karkare is a noted name in North Indian classical music. He has been one of the most celebrated artist from Gwalior in recent times. His performance comprises of various kaleidoscopic effects in Khayal Sangeet. He also performs Bhajans, Thumri, Tappa, Tarana, Trivat, Chaturang, Hori, Tappa Ang Hori, Dadra, Semi-Classical Geet, Natya-Geet, Marathi Bhaav-Geet, Qawwali and various other different forms of music. Dr. Ishwarchandra Ramchandra Karkare has been awarded with the title of "Gwalior Gaurav" for his major contribution in Indian Classical Music.

Family Background
Dr. Ishwarchandra Ramchandra Karkare belongs to the famous Karkare Dynasty, which had contributed much in the History of Maratha Kingdom. The famous Mahadjipant Guruji was in the service of Bajirao (I) Peshwa. MahadjiPant Guruji was the Karhade Brahmin from Ratnagiri (Maharashtra), his full name was Mahadjipant Karkare Ballal. He was Guru of Vishwasrao Peshwa, Madhavrao (I) Peshwa and Narayanrao Peshwa. Later on Mahadjipant Guruji Karkare became a prominent figure in Poona Durbar during the Sawai Madhavrao Narayan's regime. During the Panipat Campaign, Sakharam Moreshwar Karkare was appointed as one of the main bodyguard of Vishwasrao Peshwa. The management of 27 Horses of Peshwa was under Sakharam Moreshwar Karkare, who fought brilliantly which caused deep tremors in Ahmed Shah Abdali's camp. Sakharam Moreshwar Karkare sacrificed his life for the country and his name is still taken with much honor by historians. There are many records available which proves that before the Panipat campaign, members of Karkare family were alongwith the army of Sardar Shrimant Tukajirao Shinde (elder brother of Shreenath Mahadji Maharaj).
Bhaurao Karkare direct descendant of Sakharam Moreshwar was appointed as Revenue Collector in Jalaun (UP) by Peshwa Court of Poona, under the rule of The Great Warrior Shreenath Mahadji Shinde. Bhaurao Karkare fought against British Army during the Second Maratha-Anglo war. Vishwasrao Karkare and Narayanrao Karkare direct descendants of Bhaurao Karkare took active part in The First Freedom Struggle also known as the Mutiny of 1857. Vishwasrao Karkare and Narayanrao Karkare were with Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi ; both fought against British Army and were killed in action.
Continuing the heritage Krantiveer Ramchandra Moreshwar Karkare (Advocate) , from the same family, distinguished himself in the Freedom Movement (Angrezon ! Bharat Chhodo. Andolan). Ramchandra Moreshwar Karkare was highly influenced by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak's view and thus followed the path shown by him. He took active part and was a member of famous Chandrashekhar azad's team. Advocate Ramchandra Moreshwar Karkare's name is enlisted as Freedom Fighter in the Government Records of Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Ishwarchandra Karkare is the youngest son of Pt. Ramchandra Moreshwar Karkare.
