Deborah Senn

Deborah Senn is an American politician and attorney who served as the Washington State Insurance Commissioner from 1993 to 2001.

During her tenure as Insurance Commissioner, Deborah Senn fought for consumer protection, pushed for increased transparency in the insurance industry, and implemented numerous reforms. She successfully fought against insurance companies who denied coverage for pre-existing conditions, pushed for the establishment of the Basic Health Plan, and introduced the Insurance Fair Conduct Act.

The Insurance Fair Conduct Act is a law introduced by Deborah Senn during her time as Insurance Commissioner. It allows policyholders to sue insurance companies for wrongful denial, unreasonable delay, or deceptive handling of claims. Through this act, Senn aimed to hold insurance companies accountable and ensure fair treatment for policyholders.

Before serving as Insurance Commissioner, Deborah Senn served as a State Representative in Washington from 1989 to 1993. After her tenure as Insurance Commissioner, she ran for the position of Attorney General in 2004 but was unsuccessful in her bid. She has also been an attorney in private practice, focusing on consumer protection and insurance law.

Deborah Senn earned her bachelor's degree in history from Stanford University. She later received her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.
