Biography
David Cochrane is a Canadian journalist and political reporter, currently working as a reporter with the CBC's Parliamentary Bureau in Ottawa, Canada.
Early life and education
Cochrane was raised in Newfoundland and Labrador. He attended the Memorial University of Newfoundland, in the years 1992-1997, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. While at the university, he was as the news editor for the university's student-run newspaper, The Muse.
He initially intended to study English with a minor in political science; however, he later switched in favor of a joint major in English and history.
Career
After graduation, Cochrane worked with Canadian University Press as the Ottawa Bureau Chief. His articles appeared in various publications including the University of British Columbia's Ubyssey and British Columbia Institute of Technology's The Link.
After a stint with The Telegram, St. John's newspaper, Cochrane took a summer job at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in St. John's. After converting to a full-time employee, he has continued to work with CBC ever since. In 2000, he became the Provincial Affairs Reporter.
In 2011, he began producing and hosting CBS's political television show On Point with David Cochrane and radio program On Point Radio. The shows covered Newfoundland and Labrador politics and ran until June 2014.
In June of 2016, Cochrane relocated to Ottawa to work as CBS' Senior Parliamentary Reporter.
Over the years, he has also guest-hosted national programs such as Power and Politics, The House and CBC News Network.
Personal life
Cochrane lives with his wife and two children in Ottawa. He has met his wife while attending Memorial University.
