Dave Ferriss

Dave Ferriss was an American Major League Baseball pitcher for the Boston Red Sox and former head baseball coach at Delta State University. He played for the Red Sox from 1945 to 1950.

Ferriss had a career record of 65 wins and 30 losses, with an earned run average (ERA) of 3.42. He was known for his sinkerball pitch, which helped him induce many ground ball outs.

Ferriss was named an All-Star in 1946 and finished third in the American League MVP voting that same year. He also helped lead the Red Sox to the American League pennant in 1946.

After his playing career, Ferriss became a successful college baseball coach. He coached at Delta State University from 1960 to 1988, leading the team to numerous conference championships and two national championships.

Dave Ferriss was known for his outstanding pitching ability, particularly his sinkerball pitch. He is considered one of the best pitchers in Red Sox history and was inducted into the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2002. His coaching success at Delta State also solidified his legacy as a respected and accomplished figure in the world of baseball.
