Darren Millar

Darren David Millar (born 1976) is a Welsh politician. He is a Welsh Conservative member of the National Assembly for Wales for Clwyd West.

Millar lives in the Kinmel Bay area with his wife and two children. He enjoys reading and history, and attends North Coast Church.

Prior to his election to the Assembly, Millar was a manager for an international charity. He has also been an accountant working in the construction, care home and telecommunications industries. Millar is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA), and a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).

In 2000/2001, Millar became the youngest serving Mayor in Wales, a record which he understands is as yet unbroken, when he served the township of Towyn and Kinmel Bay. He has also served as a member of Conwy County Borough Council, the North Wales Police Authority and the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

Millar is a former Shadow Minister for the Environment and Planning, a former Shadow Minister for Communities and Local Government and also a former Shadow Minister for Economy and Transport. He is a former member of the National Assembly's Sustainability Committee, and a former Chair of the National Assembly's Health, Well-being and Local Government Committee.

In November 2010 he was elected as Chair of the Assembly's Public Accounts Committee. Millar also Chairs the Cross Party Group on Faith, and the Cross Party Group on the Armed Forces and Cadets, both of which he is a founder member.

In the 2003 National Assembly for Wales election, he stood as a candidate for the Vale of Clwyd where he increased the Conservatives' vote share by 8.4%.

In the 2007 National Assembly for Wales election, he was elected to the Clwyd West seat, defeating the incumbent Labour AM, Alun Pugh, by 6.1%.

In the 2011 National Assembly for Wales election, he was re-elected to the Clwyd West seat with an increased majority of 16.9%.
